Career Development

“I started working with Watermans in 2013 as a Trainee Solicitor, and now head up the Conveyancing department. My colleagues and line manager have supported me from day one and have allowed me to develop my skills throughout my Watermans journey. I have always been ambitious, and this was actively encouraged by the firm, with the opportunity to progress through the business. Over the last ten years, ongoing mentoring, a collaborative work culture and a business environment which encourages freedom, trust and initiative has played a big part in my progression. The company has also invested in my professional and personal development, offering continuous learning opportunities such as leadership and management courses.”

Flexible Working

“As a working parent I value the ability to work flexible hours and the opportunity to have a hybrid working pattern. I am trusted to fulfill my responsibilities in a way that suits me. Watermans are forward thinking in the fact that they support flexible working for all and not just for those with caring responsibilities. The team are able to work condensed hours, part-time and other flexible working patterns to suit their lifestyle and other personal commitments. The majority of our team have a percentage of their week working from home which is great for managing work-life balance!”

Continuing Professional Development

“As a solicitor, the learning doesn’t stop once you finish your traineeship. Practising solicitors are required to complete 20 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) each year. CPD ensures that we remain up to date on legislative and procedural changes as our careers progress. At Watermans, we utilize external training sources as well as arranging internal training talks from colleagues to make sure our team is ready to tackle anything!”

Career Development

“I started with Watermans in January 2018 as a Business & Administration Modern Apprentice. I completed this course in November 2018 and then was kept on as a business administrator. I was in this role for 2 years and began to train for my Residential Conveyancing Paralegal Qualification which I passed in November 2020. I have stayed in this role since then and I have just recently been accepted onto the Accredited Paralegal Status. Through my progress at Watermans, I have been lucky enough to have encouragement and support from both my line manager and the Managing Director to progress within the business. This year I will be continuing with my learning by taking part in further development training. I really enjoy my role within the team and the hands-on role that Watermans offer as a Paralegal”.

Flexible Working

“My favourite thing about working at Watermans is the flexibility. I can plan my work schedule and office days around my personal commitments. I think we all do our best work when we’re most comfortable and can be our best selves, the hybrid and flexible working benefits definitely allow me to work to my best ability for this reason.”

Modern Apprenticeship

“I am currently completing a Modern Apprenticeship whilst working at Watermans. I couldn’t have asked for a more welcoming and stress-free introduction than the one I got when I joined here. Everyone in the office was lovely and made me feel like I was part of the team straight away. My training for my position was great because it went at a pace that worked for me and I always felt comfortable asking questions! I have help and support throughout my apprenticeship, where I am encouraged to dedicate time to learning and studying.”

Career Support

“Watermans have continuously supported my career, from the beginning of my journey as a marketing intern to my current full-time position as a digital marketing assistant. Whilst employed on a part-time basis in the final year of my university degree, the company was able to provide flexible working hours to suit my university timetable, which was a massive help. Having that flexibility meant that I was able to give my all to both my degree and my work, and my studies never suffered as a result. Constant check-ins with my manager and the rest of the team meant I was never overwhelmed with my workload, and was able to develop my skills efficiently.”
