Ideal applicants for the role of Solicitor in our Dispute Resolution team must enjoy managing their own caseload, have an ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in written form, and possess strong negotiating skills in order to achieve the best results for their clients.

We welcome applications from candidates who have

  • prior experience in a litigation role, with a background in personal injury, road traffic accidents, employer liability or medical negligence.
  • sound knowledge of general insurance claims processes, legislation, and protocol
  • excellent communication and negotiation skills, in order to achieve favourable outcomes for clients

About the role

As a Dispute Resolution Solicitor, you will be responsible for your own high-volume caseload, and are required to attend Court as necessary.

Applicants for the position of Claims Handler will be confident communicators, with sound knowledge of general insurance claims processes, legislation and protocol, in order to make the process as straightforward as possible for our clients.

Due to the nature of the role, the ideal candidate will have excellent organisational and time-management skills, with prior experience in managing a high volume of road traffic accident cases. Experience in determining liability, analysing engineer reports and credit hire is essential in order to be considered for this position.

About the role

As a Claims Handler at Watermans, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to

  • Contacting third parties from a network of approved professionals and arranging for them to make repairs on the client’s vehicle
  • Preparing initial estimates of costs and closely monitoring and documenting a record of costs
  • Maintaining an accurate, comprehensive and orderly file of documentation relating to the claim
  • Liaising with third party insurers and negotiating the terms of a claim
  • Ensuring the customer is treated fairly and receives excellent service
  • Monitoring the progress of a claim
  • Providing regular updates on the progress of a claim to clients and responding to client queries promptly
  • Sourcing advice from senior colleagues and external specialists on complex cases
  • Ensuring fair and commensurate settlement of a valid claim
  • Achieving a fee earning target as set by the firm
  • Adhering to legal requirements, industry regulations and Watermans standards of service.
  • Maintaining confidentiality in accordance with the requirements of the firm and GDPR.
  • Fulfilling any other duties as requested by your line manager or other more senior colleague within the firm.

This is a full-time role, with the opportunity to be based in our Edinburgh or Glasgow office. The salary for this role is competitive, with access to our company bonus scheme and private healthcare.
