Watermans Offer 50% Discount on Powers of Attorney This World Alzheimer's Day!

50% Off Power of Attorney Services This September

Alzheimer’s Disease is a progressive illness that affects a person’s memory and behaviour, and is one of the main causes of dementia. Almost 1 million people are currently living with dementia in the UK, and one in two of us will be affected by the illness in some capacity in our lifetimes.

Receiving an Alzheimer’s diagnosis can be scary, and it’s important to ensure that you have a support network in place to help care for you. One way to ensure that your personal welfare and finances will be taken care of is by granting a Power of Attorney.

What is a Power of Attorney?

A Power of Attorney allows you to appoint someone to look after your health, welfare and finances in the event that you become unable to do so yourself. It’s common to elect somebody that you know and trust, and often people decide on close relatives to be their Power of Attorney.

Because of the unforeseeable and degenerative nature of Alzheimer’s Disease, Watermans want to raise awareness about the importance of having a Power of Attorney in place before you receive an Alzheimer’s diagnosis, so your loved ones can concentrate on taking care of you and your affairs if you become unable to for yourself.

Head of Private Client at Watermans, Kimberley Mackay, stresses the importance of having a Power of Attorney in place, saying

“Sadly, most of us know someone who has been affected or is affected by Alzheimer’s Disease. It can be a difficult time for everyone involved, so having a Power of Attorney in place can relieve some of the pressure and allow for immediate care and welfare choices to be made if and when the time is right. Without a Power of Attorney, your loved ones will have to apply to the Court for a Guardianship Order, which can be costly and time consuming.”

“I’m regularly told that I don’t seem like the average solicitor – and that makes me happy. Who aspires to be average? What makes me different is that I put myself in my client’s shoes and aim to find solutions to their needs and situations. I work side by side with them to ensure that we achieve the best outcome possible.“
