The Women of Watermans

iwd 2

This International Women’s Day is a chance to commemorate, celebrate, and be inspired. We are an aspirational law firm and take pride in the success and achievements of our female colleagues. There is a lot of diversity and experience within the Watermans team. Together we continue to develop, expand, and excel into new and bigger things. Working together and collaborating is a huge part of the firm’s success.

This International Women’s Day, Watermans are celebrating their female colleagues in leading roles across Watermans Legal and Watermans Solicitors.

Suzanne small

Watermans ’Associate Director, Susanne McGraw joined us at Watermans Solicitors as an Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury. Not only is Susanne responsible for the direct management and training of all fee earning staff across the firm, but she also commits her personal time to community causes and is a mother to two children. Susanne is a proud supporter of the Glasgow City F.C. Women’s club, as she cheers on her daughter who plays for the team.

“Our industry has changed immensely over the years. When I was at university the majority of the students were male and women were still very much in the minority.  It was also unusual to see a female partner. Even more unusual to find one who was married. Now the vast majority of trainees that we see are female and it is more and more common to see women in positions of power taking control. We are taking the lead and not just following the male lead.  We shouldn’t rest on our laurels as there is still a disparity in the number of women in these leading roles, but it is good to see things changing and moving in the right direction.” Susanne McGraw, Associate Director

Caroline square

Our HR Manager Caroline Bennie is the first person you meet as a new start at Watermans; and sets you up feeling confident. Caroline has a background in Commercial and HR roles. In addition to an MSc in Human Resource Management, she is also a Chartered Member of the CIPD. She is passionate about supporting our team and helping them to fulfil their potential and plays a key role in our Senior management team.

Sarah Hay is a Family Solicitor in Watermans Legal, regularly advising clients through some of the most difficult times in their life. Sarah is also a Panel Member in Edinburgh with the Children’s Hearing System.  This is a voluntary role which she partakes alongside her daily job.

Our marketing strategy is all thanks to Watermans’ Marketing Manager, Agata Myszkowska. Originally from Poland she’s very busy ensuring the smooth marketing activity across both brands. With her guidance, brand awareness continues to excel; Watermans has some exciting marketing plans for 2021!

Head of Property Sales

And just this year, Watermans welcomed Tzana Webster as the new Head of Property. Tzana has been tasked with driving growth in our Estate Agency division. With fifteen years of experience of the Edinburgh Property Market under her belt, she is ideally placed to achieve this!

Scott Whyte, Managing Director of Watermans is committed to running a business that has fairness and equality at its course.  He ensures that there is a fair playing field. Everyone has the chance to succeed without any barriers of gender, race, age, or religion.

At Watermans we celebrate International Women’s Day and recognise the strive for equality that has been made in the past as well as the progress that still needs to be made. We are a business that can safely say that it is playing its part in helping achieve this with women representing the majority of our staff and holding a majority of management and senior positions within the business.
Whilst it is important that we recognise the achievements and progress made by Women this International Women’s Day, it is important to remember that everyone has a part to play in achieving quality.  This isn’t a battle that women should be fighting alone because we all have our part to play in this.
As a father of a 7-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son I am regularly challenged to think of the world I want my children to grow up in and inherit. For me, that has to be a world where they both have equal opportunities to succeed and progress in whatever they choose to do.” Scott Whyte, Managing Director

So, from all of us at Watermans, Happy International Women’s Day!
