Introduction to John and his new blog

Hello, and welcome to my new Watermans blog!

My name is John MacCrone. I’m 25, and a rally driver from Dervaig on the Isle of Mull.

There is a famous rally on my home island, the Tour of Mull, which I won in 2013 at the wheel of Ford Fiesta S2400. My motorsport career began in Scotland – there is no better place to learn with all the great forest tracks and Tarmac roads – and I won the Scottish Junior Rally Championship in 2009. I’ve also won my class on Rally Scotland, which was a round of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

I’ve done a lot of rallying all over Britain, and was fortunate enough to be selected as an official MSA Team UK driver.

The ultimate dream is to follow in the wheel tracks of my hero, Scottish rally legend Colin McRae, and become World Rally Champion.

I’ve got a lot of international rally experience and have contested the FIA WRC Academy and won my class on FIA World Rally Championship events. As a Watermans sporting ambassador I have big plans for the second half of 2015 – beginning with Rally Germany next week (20-23 August).

However, while I drive as fast as possible on the rally stages, I’m a real slow coach on the roads. I’m a passionate advocate for safe driving, and I want to encourage young drivers in particular to slow down, gain experience and avoid unnecessary accidents. If you want to drive fast, do what I did and become a rally driver!

Look out for more updates from me right here on the Watermans website each day next week in the build up to Rally Germany…
