Agonised parents slam council for “incompetence” as they await vital report
The devastated family of a young Scottish biker who tragically lost his life in 2022 have slammed a local council for failure to submit a report which is vital to them beginning a Fatal Accident Inquiry into his death.
Millar Buchanan died following a motorbike accident at the East of Scotland Kart Club in Crail, Fife, in 2022. Millar, a well-known figure in the Scottish biking world, died in an off-road crash when the brakes on the bike he was riding failed, leaving him unable to take a corner on the track. This caused Millar to crash into a 9ft embankment having travelled through “inappropriate” safety barriers. He was just 11 years old.
Two years on from the tragic accident, Millar’s parents Andy and Pauline Buchanan have accused Fife council of “incompetence at the highest level” as they await completion of a health and safety report that is central to their plan of pushing for a Fatal Accident Inquiry. Although Millar’s family were promised that the report would be published last October, the family are still waiting and left feeling like they are “living in a nightmare.”
The family’s fatal accident solicitor, Scott Whyte, says
“There is no legal time frame for the council to submit the health and safety report but they said at the start it would be a priority for them”.
“We have a family who have been waiting for two years for answers and their agony is being prolonged by this delay. It is really frustrating that Fife Council is standing in the way of the next step in Millar’s family getting some form of justice”.
