The acquisition of a well-established Edinburgh law firm has further bolstered rapidly-expanding city legal business Watermans.
Wright & Co, which specialises in property and family law as well as private client work, has been acquired by recently formed Watermans Legal, a sister entity of Watermans Accident Claims and Care.
The six-figure deal will see Wright & Co rebrand as Watermans Legal and work alongside leading personal injury specialists Watermans Accident Claims and Care.
It will also see Watermans increase its talent pool with all five employees at Leith-headquartered Wright & Co, including founder and Managing Director Donald Wright, who established the firm in 1988, joining under the terms of the deal.
Scott Whyte, Managing Director of Watermans, said: “Over the past few years, Watermans Accident Claims and Care has gone from strength to strength and this has fuelled significant growth. Welcoming Donald and his team on board is an exciting development for both parties and underlines our status as a major player in the Scottish legal landscape. It is also an important investment in Watermans’ future plans for expansion as we enhance the range of legal services we offer.
“The team at Wright & Co has a wealth of talent and experience as well as an excellent track record in delivering a first-class service to clients over the past three decades. This will be a massive asset to our business and a good fit with Watermans Legal as both companies value a strong emphasis on quality of service and care for our clients.”
Donald Wright, Managing Director of Wright & Co, said: “As a fellow legal firm with offices in Leith, I’ve watched Watermans grow considerably and have every confidence that this deal will allow the business to further prosper. This deal marks the start of an interesting new chapter for our business and will create the opportunity for us to take our services, and the positive impact they can make, to a wider audience.”
Watermans Accident Claims & Care was founded in Leith in 1998 and employs 35 people across offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Scott Whyte who became managing director in 2014 and was named Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce’s Young Leader of the Year in 2017, has overseen a significant increase in profits and turnover since assuming control of the firm.
