Watermans Legal helps Will Relief Scotland raise £22,000 towards good causes

Watermans has helped contribute towards the £22,000 sum Will Relief Scotland has raised by generously volunteering their time and expertise to write people’s wills in exchange for charitable donations.

The vital funds were raised as part of the Will Relief Scotland initiative, a partnership of four Scottish charities which are tackling poverty and injustice around the world.

Will Relief Scotland is made up of four Scottish Christian charities: Blythswood Care, EMMS International, MAF and Signpost International.

Instead of paying for will services, clients of Watermans are urged to make a donation to Will Relief Scotland.

Shawn Wood, a solicitor at Watermans, said: “We are delighted to have been able to offer our vital services to people who don’t have wills and to have access to such a vital document.

“At the same time we have been able help some of the most vulnerable people in the world.

“To see that the charity has helped to raise such an incredible sum throughout 2019 is truly heart-warming and we are delighted to have taken part in this initiative.”

A Will is the only way to guarantee that your estate is distributed as you wish and helps avoid expensive inheritance tax duties.

Each year in September, Will Relief offers people the chance to have a will drawn up professionally by a participating Scottish solicitor who has generously agreed to provide their time and expertise free of charge.

Scott Whyte, Managing Director at Watermans, said: “Will Relief Scotland is a fantastic initiative and we are proud to have helped to raise such a fantastic amount towards this worth cause.

“Our legal firm remains thoroughly committed to supporting worthwhile causes, particularly ones that can have a real impact on the communities we serve.”
