Watermans says crackdown on fraudulent whiplash claims aiming at wrong target

Whiplash injuries can be common after road accidents, however the cost of fraudulent claims – around £2 billion a year - has contributed to increased insurance costs. However, Watermans’ Managing Director, Scott Whyte, in an article for The Scotsman points out that the Government’s plan to set up approved medical panels to assess compensation claims is not necessary as there is a mechanism to deal with this issue under existing rules. “The government has failed to acknowledge that the real cause of fraudulent claims are the insurers themselves who have for years willingly sold data
to third parties and made settlement offers in cases where they have seen
no medical evidence.”
